BACKGROUND
Music from the Islands: From Shetland, down through England, across to Co Fermanagh and Co Clare in Ireland, (with a transatlantic link to Dennis Cahill in the US) these tracks encompass the best of traditional music in the British Isles. I created this track list, as I feel the music flows well from the 'straight' approach of the Boys of the Lough, to the more 'whimsical' playing of Martin Hayes, and finishing with one of Englands finest singers, Nic Jones. In Irish pub music sessions, it is commonplace to have a set of tunes, followed by - or including at some stage - a song. So this is my 'session' selection, which I feel is suitable for a late night radio programme. Sadly, Nic Jones has not performed for many years, due to a car accident some time ago, a great loss to the English tradition.
