BACKGROUND
I can't tell you much more than that these pieces, despite being from geographically very different places, fit very well together. Blue Asia are a Japanese outfit who, on Hotel Vietnam, worked with Vietnamese artists and yet ended up producing a quite western sounding album - but still not a bad listen! The Hoian track is the work of Jenny Chin, who is more adventurous in her production work. The first of my '3', it draws you in, creeping up on you before exploding into frenetic 'noise' in the middle. Much more subtlety from Rabih Abou-Khalil, this is sly music making which will give Late Junction listeners a wry smile as he plays with an infectious tune, but always keeps things cool. The final track of the '3' is one of the Tin Hat Trio's more sprightly items, and it gives a dainty closure to this trio of tracks. Wind instruments link the first two pieces, and accordions the last two. It's a journey from Japan to the USA via Vietnam and... well, other places.
