BACKGROUND
I am interested in how music transports us into different worlds. Matthews' is a world of freedom and light, which runs towards us, as its text suggests. Sigur Ros's world is both unfamiliar and edgy, but the piano anchors us safely. We may think we know Tavener's world, but it is the unknown. The climax of the piece shocks me each time I hear it.
