BACKGROUND
All of these pieces have a similar 'Late Junction' feel which enables them to segue together very well in sequence. In fact, the first and last are actually tracks I heard on the programme.
The track from Kings of Convenience has a wonderfully relaxed feel, a song which immediately grabbed me when I first heard it, even though I knew nothing about the artists or the album.
Nils Petter Molvaer's blend of modern electronic beats and soundscapes and Miles Davis-esque trumpet shouldn't work, but it does. This is one of his best tracks, in my opinion: the mix of the electronics and melody is perfectly balanced to create a unique and haunting effect.
Finally, a typical ECM track in many ways, and one tailored exactly to Late Junction's standards. A spare yet beautiful, almost Messiaen-esque atmosphere pervades the piece.
