Barn at Wycoller Hall Location:
Near Colne in Lancashire What is your relationship to this building?:
Passing walker Why do you love this building?:
The visitor pavilion at Wycoller barn near Colne in Lancashire is an inspirational modern intervention that has landed seamlessly into a medieval aisled barn. Its relative simplicity of line and form belies its hi-tech modern approach.
The barn is a magnificent example of an aisled timber frame barn that dates back centuries to the 1630s. It was a bold move to plant this new object within the structure but the juxtaposition of the two works perfectly.
As you walk up to the barn through the medieval village the information pavilion is the last thing you expect to see. The architects have provided information, light and enclosure.
Wonderful, Amazing, Fantastic!
