Katie Hepworth Building:
Natural History Museum Location:
London What is your relationship to this building?:
I'm a frequent visitor here, since my first ever trip to London with my father when I was 8. It's also where my husband proposed to me, so it has some great memories. Why do you love this building?: I just love the entrance hall - such a magnificent space, but not overpowering. The balance of old and new is well done, with the escalator up into the Earth gallery taking you into another world. The different rooms and exhibits transport you into different environments. I especially enjoyed standing in the jungle section with a crowd of people I first met on a conservation project in Peru. We were still challenging ourselves to recognise all the bird calls (especially the Screaming Peeha!) Although the exhibits are the main reason people visit the museum, I love to wander around and just look at the building. I particularly enjoy looking down on the main hall from the upper balconies.
