The Toccata and Fugue in Dm, BWV 565, is an iconic work, and yet there is much controversy about almost every aspect of the piece - including which instrument it was originally written for and who actually wrote it.
At 2.10pm, St John Passion, BWV 245, which Bach composed early in 1723 intending it for the Good Friday service at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. Mark Padmore introduces this performance, in which he sings the demanding role of the Evangelist.
