WHAT'S ON NEAR YOU?

Every week we give you five good reasons not to stay in over the weekend…

    This Week

Next Wednesday, as part of Ramadan Festival UK, Hassan Erraji, a master musician and storyteller from Marrakesh will be telling Arabian folk tales, Berber mountain stories and other folk fables, all accompanied by traditional music at the Leighton House Museum in West London.

The Crab Fair & Sports festival takes place tomorrow at Baybarrow, Orgill, Cumbria. It was established in 1267, making it one of the oldest fairs in the world and has a mixture of ancient and traditional events with some more contemporary attractions – including fancy dress pony judging, an egg throwing contest, a ferret show, a classic car exhibition and the world gurning championship.

Saturday is also the start of the Liverpool Biennial International – Britain’s only international Festival of Contemporary Art. It runs for ten weeks at a variety of sites around the city including Tate Liverpool, Open Eye and The Bluecoat. It features many of the world’s most exciting artists creating brand new works alongside their British contemporaries.

It’s Charlie and Lola’s Storytime this Sunday between 11:30 and 12:30 at the Bath Central Library as part of the city’s Festival of Children’s Literature. Over at the Guildhall at midday, Morris Gleitzman, author of the hilarious books ‘Bumface’ and ‘Give Peas A Chance’ will be talking about his life and writing.

…and finally, this weekend is the final two days of this year’s Saltaire Festival near Shipley, West Yorkshire. There are a number of free and ticketed events spread over the two days including piano and organ recitals, a fashion show, local and continental street markets and the final performance of “Bells – the Bronte Musical”.
