Twenty years ago, when Simon was a whippersnapper presenter on BBC Radio 1, he received thousands of letters from listeners confessing their darkest secrets and worst misdemeanours, begging for his forgiveness. Every day, Father Mayo read out a confession - and then he'd decide whether to grant forgiveness or not.

Dear Simon,
After listening to the confessions on your show, my conscience finally got the better of me and I've decided to own up to something which happened several years ago.
I was about twelve years old at the time and my father bred rabbits (large quantities, around forty or fifty at a time). He would fatten them up and sell them to the local market. At the time I had no interest in them, other than to eat one occasionally for Sunday lunch.
Anyway, one weekend my father said to my mother, 'Don't bother getting a joint, dear, we'll have a rabbit.' Off he went down the garden to nab an unsuspecting rabbit for the pot. A few minutes later he returned. 'That's saved some time,' he said. 'One of the little devils had got out of its hutch, so I've hit it on the head and it's hanging up in the shed.'
Several hours passed, and the rabbit was skinned and was stewing nicely in the oven. A knock came on the door. 'Oh Charlie', cried the next-door neighbour, 'have you seen our Ronnie's pet rabbit - it's got out and he's ever so upset - we think it went into your garden.' Yes, it was Ronnie's rabbit that was stewing away in our oven. 'We'll have a look for it, Mrs Wills,' said my father, knowing he only had to open the oven door. The following morning my father took one of his own rabbits round to console Ronnie.
I just wanted to say, 'Please forgive me, Ronnie, for knowingly eating your pet rabbit, Bugle - he tasted absolutely delicious. I made a key-ring out of his tail - so if for sentimental reasons you'd like it, just let me know.
Linda
P.S. I've since turned vegetarian
