AFTER NIRVANA
Show airs on Saturday 3rd April 2100 - 2200
Presented by Steve Lamacq

Nirvana
Radio 2 marks the tenth anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death.
On Saturday 3rd April, Radio 2 will mark the tenth anniversary of the suicide of Kurt Cobain, lead singer with the legendary Seattle band Nirvana. They almost single-handedly dragged rock music out of the perma-tan hell that was hair metal and into the alternative era. Kurt was a figurehead for his generation, and his death sent seismic reverberations across the world.
Your memories of Kurt Cobain and NirvanaYOUR MEMORIES
Can you remember where you were when you heard that Kurt was gone? Your memories and Nirvana stories revealed.

The essential Nirvana Albums revealedTHE ESSENTIAL ALBUMS
The story began on just 600 dollars, and takes us to MTV Unplugged - a summation of Kurt Cobain's talents and pain.

THE 27 CLUBTHE 27 CLUB
Kurt Cobain was not the first to be taken from us so tragically at the age of 27. He became a member of an exclusive club.

In a one-off special, Radio 2 looks at Kurt's ascent into the pantheon of departed Rock Gods, and finding out why music was never the same after Nirvana.

Just as with the death of John F. Kennedy over thirty years before, many people remember where they were when they heard that Kurt was dead. Thank you for your recollections.

Steve Lamacq, the godfather of alternative music, slices open the Kurt Cobain myth, and dissects life After Nirvana.

The programme tracks Kurt's progress from his homeless teenage years, living under bridges and in friend's living rooms, through his incubation in Seattle's underground music scene, to mega-stardom, death, and immortality as the latest addition to the pantheon of dead rock gods, the successor to James Dean, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Bob Marley.

From the media frenzy after his sudden death, to the court cases, the copycat suicides and the conspiracy theories, this programme delves into the processes which have turned Kurt Cobain into a figure of mythological significance in the ten years since he died, and discover just what it is about modern society that makes us so hungry for these messiah substitutes.
