Cambridge Festival 28th-31st July 2005
RADCLIFFE'S PICKS

Mark Radcliffe with his festival picks - all destined for great things. Except, maybe, the last one...

See Mark at the Festival
Mark Radcliffe
KT TunstallKT TUNSTALL
A sparkling new singer-songwriter from St Andrews, Scotland with an articulate and accessible line in rootsy sass, wistful quandary and after-hours atmosphere. Her debut album Eye To The Telescope has resulted in a blur of gigs, including a European tour singing with 'klezmer hip-hop' band Oi Va Voi.

Kate RusbyKATE RUSBY
Boasting a Mercury Prize nomination and multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Kate Rusby has been credited with bringing folk music to the mainstream. A consummate performer of traditional music, she's also proved to be an excellent songwriter in the traditional vein. Following stints as a duo with Kathryn Roberts and band member of Equation and The Poozies, Kate now tours with her own band.

Damien DempseyDAMIEN DEMPSEY
Dublin-born Dempsey gave up an amateur boxing career to concentrate on music. A provocative and confrontational singer-songwriter, he's taken Ireland by storm with his uncompromising material drawing on reggae, rap and folk. Damien won two of his four nominated categories in the 2004 Irish Meteor Awards, and his latest album, Shots, entered the Irish album charts at Number 1.

Old Crow Medicine ShowOLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW
Five young ex-buskers from across America, reinterpreting and reintroducing pre-war American music in a voice all their own. This tightly-meshed ensemble with keening vocal harmonies play pre-World War II blues, fiddle tunes, rags, hollers, hokum and jug band music - and now their own original material - with the hip know-how of modern roots musicians.

Martha WainwrightMARTHA WAINWRIGHT
The daughter of Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, Martha originally shunned the idea of a musical career but soon found herself composing her own material and performing in clubs and coffeehouses around her native Montreal. She began touring with her older brother Rufus Wainwright as a backing vocalist and musician but is now making her own mark as an uncompromising lyricist and dynamic performer.

Mark Radcliffe with The Family MahoneTHE FAMILY MAHONE
Mark's also looking forward to seeing The Family Mahone, who he's heard are fabulous but the singer's a bit iffy ...
