One Big Guide to Falkirk
Last updated 9 August

Falkirk New to Falkirk and don't know where to go this weekend? Well there's plenty to do before and after you've checked out all the acts at One Big Sunday. Three people from the One Big Sunday message board have written their guides to the town so you get the best out of your weekend in Falkirk. You have no excuse not to party!

Your Falkirk guides are Eve, Louise and Derek. Check out their guides and if you can recommend something they've missed tell us about it here

The Town and People:
Louise is a loyal Falkirk gal who sums up the town with these words: "Falkirk is a town full of good food, shops and folk...and although it's a smaller town GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES!!!"

But Eve has a warning for us southern softies: "You should bring summit so you don't get wet 'cos it always rains here!" Cheers Eve, the cagoul is already packed!

Falkirk WheelFalkirk Sights:
Eve has turned out to be our very own Falkirk tourguide and these are her top tips: "A big must-see is the new Falkirk Wheel which was opened by the Queen! The wheel was built to connect the surrounding canals together!"
Eve also suggests a stroll in the park: "Go visit Callender Park 'cos it's great and it's where the last One Big Sunday in Falkirk was!"
But here's something which definitely gets Eve's vote (and we'll be paying a visit if we have time) "Oh and I 4got about McCowans Toffee Factory in Stebnhousemuir :P yumyum!!!"

Chips - yay!
Eating Out:
Now that we're onto the subject of food here's Louise's suggestions for good grub: "Falkirk is great for food we have a range of fast food stores, including McDonalds, Burger King and the Wimpy, Indian's - The Sanam and chippies - Moscardini's, which has the best chips EVER."

Hmmmm, chips!!!

Derek's a real foodie and he's done us proud with his extensive guide to eating out in Falkirk - does this man ever eat at home?

"The Gulnar, just along the road in Larbert, has the best range of Indian food in Scotland...try the Afghan Korma. Bombay delights on the Main Street in Camelon is a distant 2nd best.

If you prefer Chinese then Mings in the centre of town is superb, my favourites are the spare ribs with the Peking sauce or the Peking style Sweet and Sour or, for the plainer eaters, try the Special Fried Rice, the sauce is sublime.

If your tastes lie closer to home then try Pierre's (French) or Casa Espaniola (Spanish) on Graham's Road...very cultured.

Alternatively, take a seat "Behind the Wall" (just up from Grahamston Station), they have a varied selection on their menu then move upstairs for the finest selection of ales available in Falkirk. That all for now. Enjoy."

Thanks Derek, we will enjoy - can't wait to get there now!

Mall ratsShopping:
Louise and Eve are clearly girls who like to shop and they have this to say about the delights of retail therapy Falkirk style:

Louise says: "Falkirk consists of two shopping centers, Howgate and Calendar Square, and a High Street FULL of stores. We have a range of sports stores and clothes shops. We have music stores (Sleeves and Virgin)and chemist store things (Boots and Superdrug)."

And here's Eve: "The Howgate is the best for shopping. In the Howgate there is a Sports Connection, Claire's, River Island, Quiz, Etam, New Look, Au National, and loads more."

Clubbing in FalkirkNightlife
I'm sure there's some cool places to hang out of an evening in Falkirk and Louise and Eve have come up with a couple of suggestions but if you can think of any more let us know, 'cos we're itching to get our dancing shoes on in preparation for the big gig on Sunday! In the meantime, here's our guides with their top tips...

Louise reckons: "If you take a brief walk towards the train station you come to the retail park...where Cineworld the best cinema in Falkirk District is."

And Eve has a very good excuse not to know about the club scene in Falkirk: "I'm only 14 so I dunno, but Storm is really popular and for the younger people there's Rosies and JT's!"

Thanks to Eve, Louise and Derek - for being our Falkirk guides, but if you think you're in the know it's still not too late to tell us what's hot. See you all on Sunday!!
