Producers Note:

One World this week takes on a tour from Bath to Vienna to New York - hmmm strange, but all bundled with some great music.

First off we visit Peter Gabriel's Real World label who celebrated their 20th anniversary this week. If you have never come across Mr Gabriel or the label, then very briefly, they are responsible for injecting / maintaining some of the best music from across the globe into this country and beyond. Some of you will be aware of his solo work or perhaps his time with Genesis (circa 1970's) or his connection with the massive WOMAD festival. Anyway, if you think this is all disappearing into "chin stroke alley" - then please have another look -

I was fortunate to attend the events marking the 20th celebrations at the extremely beautiful Real World studios based just outside Bath. While there I heard new music from a range of artists including Joi, Adrian Sherwood, Afro Celt Sound System, Severa Nazarkhan, Daby Toure and Peter Gabriel himself - I'm glad to report that there were some truly amazing tracks which properly fused the best of modern day Western music with other more traditional global styles. You may say you've heard this before, but as a young listener, its really something thats way beyond being accessible, it really felt fresh and exciting. So for tonight's show we spoke to the label and to Farouk from Joi to tell us more.

Second up on the show it's the well known arm of Viennese cool - we spoke to Richard Dorfmeister on the phone about the heavy output from his G-Stone label and the recent compilations with Sunshine Enterprises. It turns out they've all been busy there - but as always, no clear answer to any forthcoming collaborations as Kruder & Dorfmeister.

Look out for some more live music from this year's Sonar Festival with tracks from Isolee and more.

Our final guests on the show are the New York based band "The Occasion" who recorded an album "Cannery Hours" and released it on the US based Say Hey Records. It's just now been signed to the UK via James Endicott (formerly of the band "Loop") on his 1965 label. Fuzzy spaced out music possibly reminiscent of the sadly missed Spacemen 3 - we tried to find out more in a very bizzare studio link up to the States, where everyone's voice was being fired back at them a second after they talked. Confused ? - well we were - but hopefully you'll find that their music makes sense of it all.
