Producers Note:
The One World show this week is yet another mixed bag full of delights. We have four separate guests in the show, each of which are really well worth checking out.
Edberg
First up we have an exclusive Maida Vale session from London based Icelandic musician Eberg who released his debut album Plastic Lions in August 2003 . One Music's Huw Stephens quickly championed E-berg on Radio 1. Since then he had plays from Rob Da Bank, Zane Lowe and us at One World. He has a new album "Voff Voff" which is released at the end of May. Its quirky electronica mixed with real instruments and indeed have been described as "the most original laptop troubadours around." Tonight's session comprises of live tracks from the new album.
Shantel
Our second guest is someone who we have wanted for quite a while now. Gogol Bordello was raving about this man when he came into the studios earlier this year. He is renowned German DJ/producer Shantel (Stefan Hantel) who is a guru for the manic music of the Balkans. Serving as a sort of imaginary soundtrack to Frankfurt's amazing, vodka-fueled, gypsy-rave all-nighter, Shantel's eclectic mix of clubsounds, future funk, Roma ballads, Balkan brass and freestyle electronica are now legendary across the dancefloors of Europe. Shantel's former life as a producer of downtempo and electronica has taught him to fly in the face of convention by treating local Eastern European and Balkan music in the same way as hiphop and all kinds of club music, making them just as much an integral part of today's youth and pop culture.
Scott Nixon
Our third guest this week is snowboarding champion Scott Nixon who set the World Record for the highest altitude DJ set last week on the Denosai Plains, Pakistan - deep in the heart of the Himalayas . As temperatures plummeted to -23 C and snow storms enclosed the base camp, Nixon, dealing with acute altitude sickness, managed to play an hour and half set, bustin out favourite breaks to a crowd of thirty five revellers; a Freeride crew of skiers, snowboarders and local sherpas. We caught up with Scott at this year's Snowbombing and recorded his live set on the Fingerlickin night.
DJ Yoda
Our final guest is the genius that is behind the famous " How To Cut & Paste Volumes 1 and 2 . DJ Yoda returns to the airwaves to treat and mutilate another set of classic 80s pop and rock records into masterpieces of turntablism, with scratching and samples peppering each track. He always delivers something mad yet really entertaining and this is no exception prepare yourselves for the madness.
