Producers Note:
On One World this week we'll be hearing from two artists who are set to release highly anticipated albums later in the month - we'll also be locked down with Kim Harris who by day is a full time science researcher and by night devotes all her time and energy to running the Monotreme label.
Kicking off the show - it's George Evelyn better known as Nightmares On Wax. He will be releasing his fifth album "In A Space Outta Sound" on Warp records on 20th March. The new album features all the well known traits of his "medicinal sunshine soul" music but is also embedded with a variety of inflections from way outside of the UK. Nightmares on Wax hope to take the album on the road with the Irration Steppas soundsytem later in the year. We got George to spin through some of the new material.
Monotreme Records was started by Kim Harrison Lavoie in March 2002. The labels most succesful artist is undoubtedly 65 Days of Static who have been supported by John Peel, Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq, Rob Da Bank and Huw Stephens. But the label's roster is a diverse mix bag of sounds of all genres. If you only had records by Monotreme in your record collection then you wouldn't need much else as they cover everything from metal to folk to lap top beats. The next release from the label is 65 Days of Static's 'Radio Protector' which out the day this programme is aired. Future releases include the excellent Ral Partha Vogelbacher second album, 'Shrill Falcons' and Aaron Stout who is absolutely amazing and reminds us of early Medicine Head material. Well worth checking out if you like your psychedelic folk music.
Cyantific have been signed to Hospital records for a while now, but they are just about to release their debut album "Ghettoblaster". They have been recently getting heavy props for the title track from the album which features an almighty Miami flavoured, tempo crunching breakdown - This track has done damage on the DnB dancefloors out there. The boys came into Radio 1 to roll out some of the other flavours from the new album .
Finally, the One World Jukebox bring you records by Markese, Ellen Allien, Cymbol and DJ Zinc as well an oldie by dub legend Sugar Minott.
