For clubbing in Sunderland Liquid/Diva is by far the best although Beach is good for a change. The best place to eat has to be Luciano's which serves the best italian food in Sunderland. For shopping though Newcastle is definately worth a visit. If there is any free tickets please send them in our direction as we have to work and cant get any!!!

Louis' on Park Lane for frothy coffee, lovely bread buns baked on the premises and good friendly service. Family owned and run from the 20's with proper Formica tables.

The Olive Garden, 22 Vine Place, Sunderland. A must for a cracking Italian meal and an excellent relaxed atmosphere. Pure pub at Park Lane for the best music. Chase if you're into busy pubs and The Lambton Worm for cheap drinks.
christine
whitley bay is the best ( bannana jo's
Pilsbury dough boy
Liquid/Diva is by far the best club in Sunderland, as for bars, TTonic, Vision, Olivers and Chase are all quality.

sunderland is two mins from newcastle and both are on the metro (newcastles version of the underground) although i dont know sunderland at all other than the climbing wall in pallion which has the largest wall in europe. But Newcastle is awesome thursday and saturday night at foundation is the best depending on your type of music. my fav restraunt is la tasca a spanish tapas bar on newcastle queyside and the best bar is stereo on the queyside as well. but whitherspoons is cheep as chips at central station and clear and revolution just around the courner are wicked for the shots

for the best in student drinking try 'the ivy house'. its probably the smokest pub in sunderland but the atmosphere is amazing. the people are great and the bar staff are lovely. its my local but people in there can travel from plenty of distances. theres plenty of foreign students in the surrounding areas too, who are very nice (especially our french neighbours)!! if u dont mind spending a fortune on drink in a club try liquid, its mostly dance music on a saturday...but sunday is more my style of the r and b. its only open until 1am but is lots of fun. shops-well h&m, u cant go wrong. ourshops are ok, but newcastle is the best option for some quality retail therapy. restaurants in town-positanos (for a pollo positano-yummy!!), the olive garden is a nice lil restaurant and there is also a nice greek restaurant, but dont know what its called. is just a very short walk from the sunderland interchange (bus station). i am so excited about one big weekend in sunderland!!! cant wait to see all those top acts!

Best bars to go to in Sunderland are Chase in Park Lane and The White Room on Holmeside.
Other than that try Fitzgeralds, Ttonic, Pure and Vision.

Sunderland is a very up and coming area with a lot of new bars. My particular favourites are Hogans and the Sun Inn, both of these are in the picturesque village of Southwick.

Get along to the Grey Horse near Penshaw Monument for a cracking Sunday lunch!

Sunderland has come on leaps and bounds as far as night-life goes in the last few years. Spit and sawdust pubs have been replaced by Cafe bars and lively pubs. Most city centre pubs are open until 1 a.m at the weekend. The clubbing scene is decent but not brilliant. There is something for everyone and music to suit all tastes from RnB to Indie right through the spectrum. 35,000 people flock to Sunderland city centre every Saturday night so they can't all be wrong! Forget the images that you have of Sunderland. Come and experience it for yourself and I can guarantee you will think differently.

If you like curry come to South Shields Ocean Road 7 miles North of Sunderland. There has got to be more curry restaurants in tis street than any where else in North East. You will not be disappointed
Nige Noodles
Best pub to go to in Sunderland City Centre is Luma followed by the White Room! IF you want to go clubbing then check out Ku Club in the High Street.
Helen
If you're staying in Sunderland you can't go wrong with the amount of bars in the City Centre - stick to the PARK LANE end of town for the classier joints or if you want the likes of FLARES and places with girls gyrating on bars then you want the HIGH STREET WEST end of town. Whatever floats your boat!
Michael, South Hylton
Sinatra's in the city centre. Usually crowded but great atmosphere and Karaoke most nights.
Phil (Sunny Sunderland)
Penshaw Monument which is in ure pics should be named the chill out room. It is a fantastic place to go during the day or night to chill out. If Sunderland go up this season this will be the icing on the cake and it can be one huge party.
Andy
Bars - right next to the venue there is a pub which was until recently known as The Prospect. There is also Penshaw Tandoori if you are hungry after the gig.
hayley
i'm going to the gig naked
JJ
Fiume, Fatfield, Washington - Excellent Italian

It's always said that Newcastle is superior to Sunderland but Sunderland's a great place to live. Liquid is definately the best place to go clubbing, as it plays R&B and hip-hop, etc, and also has stairs leading down to Diva, which plays stuff like the Killers and the like. It's a great night out!
Sarah
Sunderland is great, and there's a good mix of cheap student stuff to do there. For some reason the North East, one of the coldest places I've been in my life, loves beach-themed clubs where the staff wear bikinis (think baha in Newcastle for example), and Beach in Sunderland is no exception. So go along wearing as little as possible and have the ultimate cheesy night out, it's one of my favourites! I love Sunderland because it has the best H & M I've ever been to, it was all neat and tidy and for once I found loads of stuff! And as first to comment - ticket giveaway surely?

SUNDERLAND Best Pubs/bars/clubs: My favourite pub is the gohic Baroque, stunning interior, cheap, right in the centre of town. I must admit though that there are lodsa good pubs in Sunderland.
Must mention Manor Quay University Of Sunderlands student nightclub, all those with NUS cards must go here, its fab, dead cheap and packed with fun. Shops: The Bridges shopping centre is the main indoor shopping complex in Sunderland. It host's shops such as Debenhams, Topshop, USC, Next, all of the general high street stores. Restaurants: There are plenty of Restaurants in Sunderland from the all you can eat Panda buffet from around £5 per person, to a swanky meal at the nearby Seaham Hall hotel. Other places of interest: Sunderland Winter Gardens and Museum, often hosts local art exhibitions, info on Sunderlands past, as well as the famous Winter Gardens hosting many rare plants under tropical degrees (im not doing it justice here) a must see. Stadium of Light, yes i know they are'nt in the Premiership anymore, but they are still a team to be proud of. The Metrocentre - 20 mins drive from Sunderland is Europes largest indoor shopping centre. Newcastle is situated around 20 mins car drive away from Newcastle. Those without a car can get the local metro at a cost of around £4 return from Sunderland to Newcastle, and it only takes 28 mins to get there. Sunderland is a city well worth visiting and im glad it's starting to get the recognition it deserves. One big weekend will be fab, and the area it will be in (Herrington Country Park) is very accessible from the city centre (by bus). Herrington Country Park is directly oppsite Penshaw Monument, our own copy of the great Parthanon in Greece, well worth a visit up to the top of Penshaw Monument too (although only for those of you who are fit enough to climb a steep ish hill). Sunderland is my home town, and i guarantee you will a fab time when you come here. This event will be massive, and a brill weekend.
