Ben Pol
DJ Edu talks to Tanzanian R&B star Ben Pol, who in addition to being one of his country's most popular musicians also campaigns for action on climate change.
Ben Pol from Tanzania is known for his smooth R&B influenced-sound. He was catapulted to fame in 2012 thanks to his hit song Nikikupata. Since then he’s released five albums and two EPs.
Ben Pol is an artist who’s conscious of his influence. For the video of his song Sophia, he cast a beautiful woman with albinism to play the role of the love interest. The song was released at a time when Tanzania was facing an epidemic of horrific attacks on people with albinism, thanks to erroneous beliefs that their body parts have magical properties. Ben Pol also campaigns for action against climate change, and he spoke to This Is Africa from the World Youth Forum in Egypt which he’d been attending as a delegate.
