China’s birth rates drop to lowest level in 70 years

China joins long list of nations where birth rates are falling despite its scrapping of one-child policy.

New figures out of China show birth rate levels have dropped to their lowest level since the Communist Party came to power 70 years ago. China’s one child policy was scrapped in 2016, but birth rates have continued to drop steadily every year since.

Also in the programme; we go to Australia where the skies have finally opened drenching the fire-ravaged nation with much-needed water. It’s not all good news – the heavy deluge has caused widespread flooding in south-east Queensland. Meanwhile, in Spain, a new government has been formed, with an alliance between the Socialists and the left-wing Podemos Party.
