The Indian cabinet approves more than a billion dollars in funds for a detailed census.

The Indian cabinet has approved more than a billion dollars in funds for a detailed nationwide census to be held next year. This is despite weeks of protests over a citizenship law that critics say is anti-Muslim. We speak to our correspondent on the ground who has been following the latest protests.

And since September close to 3,000 firefighters have been out every day in New South Wales in Australia battling the ongoing bush fire crisis. It is estimated that close to 90% of those people are unpaid volunteers. A recent call for more resources from a firefighters' leader has become a big talking point in the country.
