Lebanese government concedes to economic reform following nationwide protests
The Lebanese government concedes to economic reform following nationwide protests. The proposals involve privatising some companies, scrapping new taxes and halving the salaries of top officials. The prime minister, Saad al Hariri, has suggested he might resign if his feuding government partners fail to accept the reforms.
Also on the programme: Kurdish forces in Syria pull out of Ras al-Ayn, a strategically important border town near Turkey; and shelling kills at least ten in the disputed region of Kashmir which is claimed by India and Pakistan.
