Strike action following Catalonia protests
Protesters in Catalonia call a general strike after separatist leaders jailed.
Protesters in favour of Catalonia's independence have called a general strike which follows several days of sometimes violent clashes with the police, which were sparked by the jail sentences handed down to nine separatist leaders on Monday. They were given terms of between nine and 13 years for their part in the 2017 referendum on independence for Catalonia. The vote was declared illegal by the Spanish constitutional court.
