The military campaign has triggered an exodus of tens of thousands of Rohingya Muslim refugees to Bangladesh. Myanmar's de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, said the crisis in Rakhine state was being distorted by what she called misinformation. The minister in charge of border security told a BBC correspondent in Rakhine that all of the villages burned down there were destroyed by Rohingya militants, in a bid to force civilians to flee. Also: Human Rights Watch has accused the Egyptian security services of using torture systematically in what could amount to a crime against humanity, and sneezing dogs - a new study of wild dogs says it could be a way for the animals to decide when they should move off to hunt.
