Rex Tillerson acknowledges US may not be able to win in Afghanistan
The US secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, has acknowledged that America may not be able to win the war in Afghanistan. At a news conference, he said the Taliban couldn't win either, and at some point peace talks would have to take place.
Angolans are preparing to go to the polls to choose a new president. The country’s President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is standing down after 38 years in power. But with his children in prominent positions in Angola, and the incoming president's powers weakened, Mr Dos Santos is unlikely to be completely out of the picture.
A chemical innovation might be able to turn human waste, including the air we breathe, into plastic. Dr Mark Brenner, a bio-chemical engineer from Clemson University, is conducting research with a view to enable astronauts to re-use literally everything on long space voyages.
