Kirsty Lindsay

A bright, curious and perceptive teenager, Kirsty Lindsay was born into a complex family dynamic with a self-orientated, unreliable mother and a controlling, sometimes short-tempered, father.

Smarting from her parents’ split, Kirsty arrived in Shieldinch feeling emotionally insecure, withdrawn and headed for self-destruction.

Following Rhona’s abandonment of her family, Kirsty felt increasingly isolated. Luckily, Kirsty has a close relationship with her brother, Angus, who is fiercely protective of his vulnerable little sister. While Kirsty’s relationship with her father, Alan, was cautious and distant, she had a bond with her mother, Rhona, which was intense and not always healthy. However, over time, Kirsty has learned to love and respect her father and has started to see her mother’s many flaws for the first time.

A blossoming friendship with Finn MacKay gave Kirsty a sense of belonging but the two outsiders quickly proved to be a potent pairing with their search for excitement claiming its first casualty – Murray. Kirsty’s lies that he had indecently assaulted her saw Murray run out of Shieldinch.

Her attempts to keep in with the cool crowd at school resulted in Kirsty taking an accidental overdose. She pulled through but the aftermath of her actions saw Angus prosecuted for supplying drugs and her mother and father’s marriage damaged beyond repair.
