Meet Rose Ayling-Ellis
She's ready to change stereotypes around deaf people and dance
Swapping soap scripts for sparkles, welcome Rose Ayling-Ellis to the class of 2021!
I feel like it’s so important for somebody like me to be on the show.
Born on the South East Coast, Rose discovered her passion for acting in her youth while at filming event led by the National Deaf Children’s Society. It was here she met film director Ted Evans, who later cast her in his award-winning short film The End. She then went on to apply to Deafinitely Youth Theatre, and later studied at the University for the Creative Arts.
Since then she's appeared on our screens in Casualty, Summer of Rockets and The One Show, but is best known for her regular role of Frankie Lewis in EastEnders. Here she made history as the soap's first ever deaf actress to play a deaf character who uses British Sign Language.
Likewise, she'll be entering the Strictly history books as our first ever deaf celebrity to take part. "I feel like it’s so important for somebody like me to be on the show," she said. "I want to break down the stereotype that deaf people can’t dance and can’t enjoy music."
We cannot wait to see this Strictly star in action!
