Marianne Paterson
"I just want to get my haircut" jokes Marianne Paterson when Brian asks her what she wants to achieve from setting up her business.
As Marianne says, and many start-up business people know, she is skint. All her efforts and spare time have gone into creating a business with a difference called Ayrshire Children's Services (ACS).
ACS is a social enterprise, or as the Americans would call it, a not for profit. Marianne's dream is to provide expert support for families with children who have additional needs.
She plans to create a network of trained volunteers who can provide mentoring for children and respite for their parents when required.
But Marianne's struggle to create the business is tough. Working in a hostel for homeless people at night to help pay her mortgage, she battles to get ACS underway.
