Meet Steve
Adventurer, natural history TV Presenter, public speaker and author.
Steve Backshall is one of TV’s busiest presenters. So far in 2015 Steve has already been filming in Venezuela and Baffin Island and before that he was treating audiences to an amazing set of performances on 'Strictly Come Dancing'!

Steve is an old-fashioned action hero whose leisure pursuits include mountaineering, kayaking, scuba-diving, martial arts and endurance running, which together with his unsurpassed wildlife knowledge and experience combines to make him a compelling storyteller.
Here's what he has to say about the show:
‘While dance has been a (mercifully!) small part of my own life, there is no doubt that it is of vital importance in the natural world. At the heart of every natural process is rhythm, beat, a pulse. Everything in the wild world is syncopated to its very core. Dance - as we humans would recognise it - is found across the spectrum. From the mighty twirls and leaps of great whales, the largest animals ever to have graced our planet, to the vibrations and posturing of insects so tiny you need a microscope to watch their moves.
Dancing animals are hypnotic, beautiful and dazzling to watch, but their performances ask questions that verge on the philosophical. Evolutionary theory suggests that costly behaviour must have a purpose, but even the most hardened biologist has to occasionally ask; is this animal just dancing for the fun of it? And if not, then why should we humans be any different?'
