Vicky Brock

Vicky is a self-confessed geek on a mission to save web retailers millions of pounds.

Vicky, from London via Inverness, bustled into the hatchery in Glasgow with an idea for an algorithm that would track customers who return clothing orders at an unusually high rate.

She launched Clear Returns, a software-based business whose technology depends on that algorithm. The product aims to detect patterns of high-return rates amongst online customers buying fashion clothing.

Retailers lose millions on the fact that items are often returned because they are the wrong size, or their appearance varies from what the customer thinks she is buying.

For example, a short-sleeved dress ordered online might arrive with long sleeves. A disappointed customer, and a company that needs to improve its product descriptions online.

There is another problem. And that is what Vicky describes as the cheeky shopper, someone who orders an outfit, wears it to an event, then packs it up and returns it the next week.

She and her graduate intern, Ellie Turner, visited New York as Clear Returns were the only US company to reach the finals of a women-only pitching conference called Women 2.0.

The Entrepreneurs follows Vicky and Clear Returns as they try to raise the money that will get the venture off the ground.
