Meet Greg Wise
He's been taking tips from good friend Bill Bailey
Stage and screen legend klaxon! The great Greg Wise is stepping into an exciting new role this autumn...
I can't dance! So that's the challenge.
His success story starts out in Scotland, heading to Edinburgh in his youth to study architecture. Here he caught the acting bug via the city's Fringe festival and went on to study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Fresh out of university, Greg's first professional appearance was on stage in musical Good Rockin' Tonight, but that was only the start of a glittering career that would span decades.
In 1995 he took on one of his most iconic roles as John Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility, where he first met his now wife of 18 years Emma Thompson! Greg then went on to star in a whole host of period dramas, including The Moonstone, Madame Bovary and Cranford, plus acclaimed series The Outcast, Wonderful You and Strange Angel. Not to mention one of his most recent hit roles, playing Lord Mountbatten in Netflix's The Crown.
On the big screen he's starred in Military Wives, A Private War, Walking on Sunshine and Johnny English, as well as working behind the camera on documentary A Good Man Is Hard To Find and executive producing The Song of Lunch. Plus he's taken to the stage in shows Kill Me Now, Richard II and Nabokov's Gloves.
As no stranger to he spotlight, we're expecting great things from Greg. Fingers crossed he's as good at learning steps as he is at learning lines... "I can't dance! So that's the challenge," he said. "I think I’m in good shape, I'm lucky that I'm able to keep active. I know I'll still be thrust into the ground by my professional partner, obviously, and find muscles I never knew existed."
