Fredrik
Fredrik is a widowed farmer, and Wallander's new neighbour. He knew Wallander's father, who used to live nearby.
When Wallander moves in, he recognises a fellow soul: another loner, estranged from his family, depressed and longing for company. Fredrik often stops Wallander for a chat.

Wallander sees in Fredrik a hint of what his own future might be like, and Fredrik gets him down because of it.
However, Fredrik is helpful and kind in his own way, always trying to do things for the best.
