Pauline McSorley, Forensic Scientist
Biology has always been Pauline’s passion and she knew from a young age that she wanted to work in a hospital laboratory.
She started her career in Stobhill General Hospital as a lab technician but later became interested in making the move to forensic science.
Forensic science appealed to Pauline’s sense of fairness in that the findings can lead to the truth and make a huge difference to the outcome of a criminal act and it’s this belief that has driven Pauline in her career as a Forensic Biologist.
As a Forensic Biologist, she is concerned with the identification and recovery of body fluids such as blood, semen and saliva for DNA analysis. She will interpret the DNA results obtained from these samples and along with a second scientist will prepare reports for court purposes as to the relevance of these body fluids at crime scenes, in vehicles, on clothing or on weapons.
Her passion for science is still going strong and is ever evident in the sense of gratification she gets from re-examining historic cases. As modern methods and new technology provide a second chance to cases that would otherwise remain unsolved, Pauline is confident that the perpetrators of those crimes will soon be brought to justice.
