The ‘forgotten’ frescoes rediscovered by arson
Rare 12th century paintings in an Ickleton church are to undergo conversation work, nearly 50 years after they were rediscovered by chance.
The frescoes on the walls of St Mary Magdalene's Church, which include the story of Christ's Passion, had been unseen for centuries.
However, they were revealed following an arson attack in 1979.
The are believed to be among the earliest series of wall paintings of this quality in the country.
Louise Hulland has been finding out more.
