Traitors star hailed for stammer visibility
A Traitors contestant has been praised for bringing honest and powerful representation of stammering to primetime TV.
28‑year‑old hairstylist, Jessie from Hull, said introducing herself on the first episode was “one of the biggest tests ever”. Around 1% of adults have a stammer, according to charity STAMMA.
Her appearance has struck a chord with many viewers, including Bhupinder Purewal, founder of the Coventry Stammerers support group, who described Jessie as “incredibly inspiring”.
Bhupinder set up the group in 2021 after her own struggles with confidence and now shares advice on her YouTube channel This Stammering Life. She's been speaking to BBC CWRs Vic Minett.
