Why are scammers watching the budget?

When the autumn budget is announced, authorities will be ‘on the watch’ for scammers following, Diane Doudnath, from UK Finance tells Shari Vahl.

Speaking on Scam Secrets, Diane says “[Scammers] will talk about it in forums. They try to use whatever will be high profile and seem legitimate and timely so that the victims receive the message won’t be on a heightened state of alert”.

When asked how big of an issue this is for the banks, Diane says it’s a topic of interest the industry is discussing… “after the [Winter Fuel Allowance] announcement went out, there were over a thousand fake websites set up to impersonate the government”.
