Aleen Cust: Britain's first female vet
Aleen, who had family ties to Belton House in Lincolnshire, was not allowed to take veterinary exams because she was a woman - so she ended up practising without being registered.
Aleen Cust wanted to be a vet from a very early age - but as a woman, she was not allowed to take her veterinary exams.
As a result Aleen, who was second cousin to the third Earl Brownlow who owned Belton House near Grantham, practised unregistered for many years before finally being recognised as Britain's first female vet by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
