Screenwriter Martin Sherman shares his London loves and loathes with Robert Elms.
Martin Sherman was born 1938 to Russian Jewish immigrants and grew up in New Jersey.
He rose to fame in 1979 after the production of his play Bent at the Royal Court - which explores the persecution of gay people during the Holocaust. He later adapted it into a major motion picture in 1997.
He’s written 20 plays in all and has just published his memoir ‘On the Boardwalk’. Martin has called London home since 1980.
