Cambridge Professor awarded Nobel prize

One of Cambridge’s own has just been honoured with the highest accolade in science.

Professor John Clarke, a distinguished alumni from Cambridge University, has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics.

He shares the prize with Michel H. Devoret and John M. Martinis for their ground-breaking work revealing quantum physics in action.

Born in Cambridge, John Clarke attended the Perse School on an academic scholarship before reading natural sciences at Christ’s College.

He later completed his PhD at Darwin College in 1968, conducting research at the renowned Cavendish Laboratory.

He is Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley.
