Why I bought an Essex helter skelter
A helter skelter in Southend has been dismantled after nearly 40 years on the seafront. The children’s fairground ride was recently sold to Chelmsford-based family business Downs’ Traditional Steam Fair and is going to be refurbished ahead of living out its days with other vintage attractions.
John Downs has been speaking about their newest addition to the family business, which dates to 1938.
Please note that whilst the helter skelter picture is of the same colouring and style, it isn't the one from Southend and has been used for illustrative purposes only.
