Gridlock in Guildford
Improvement works on The Chase are causing daily jams on the A3.
If you've been stuck in a queue in Guildford recently, chances are it's because of some temporary lights on The Chase, near the Cathedral.
Daily queues have stretched from the town centre and along the A3. We've been hearing how it's affected people's journeys.
Surrey Council Council sent us this statement. "We appreciate that disruption to travel is frustrating for residents but these are important works that form part of our ongoing focus to improve the safety of our roads. These works will see a variety of highway improvements implemented on The Chase and Benbrick Road in Guildford, including a new zebra crossing that will particularly benefit people with pushchairs and mobility scooters, and pupils of the nearby school. Other improvements include lining works, island adjustments and the removal of a slip road on The Chase to be replaced by a pavement. Temporary signals are being monitored and manually controlled, and we will do our utmost to minimise disruption as best we can whilst we carry out these essential works. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
