Lapland’s “Eight Seasons” – Kalevi Aho's Theremin Concerto
Headphones on: harvests, snowstorms, ice thaws, birdsong... and the theremin.
The native Sami of Lapland divide the year into eight seasons which inspire the eight movements of the Kalevi Aho’s Theremin Concerto.
Carolina Eyck, for whom the Theremin Concerto was written, narrates the changing of seasons.
This journey through sound combines music, words and soundscapes, guiding us from autumn mists and black snow, unto the midnight sun.
Conductor John Storgards, with the BBC Philharmonic, brings from his home in Lapland the phenomenal natural beauty of the Arctic.
This special 3D recording has a beautiful, spacious effect that can help take you to another space: when you’re trying to focus, wind down, or drift off to sleep.
You’ll need to wear headphones to experience this immersive 3D sound, so pop them on, and close your eyes.
