Blind autistic savant Derek Paravicini is a piano playing genius
Derek Paravicini was born prematurely in 1979. An overdose of oxygen whilst in intensive care resulted in blindness and a severe learning disability. Derek’s condition also resulted in extraordinary ability. Derek plays the piano, learns pieces instantly by ear and performs incredibly complex improvisations. He’s an autistic savant.
For BBC Music Day, Derek visited Front Row with his teacher, Adam Ockelford, and performed a very special improvisation around The Archers' theme tune.
