Elise Christie: 'Being broken up with by text was the final straw'

Speed skater Elise Christie says she considered quitting after more Olympic heartbreak.

Triple world champion speed skater Elise Christie talks about how she's dealt with the heartbreak of missing out an Olympic medal once again.

After being disqualified on three occasions at Sochi 2014, things turned from bad to worse at Pyeongchang 2018. Christie crashed out of the first two events, suffered a serious ankle injury and despite bravely batting was then disqualified in her final race in South Korea.

The 28-year-old also speaks for the first time about ex-boyfriend Shaolin Sándor Liu ending their relationship by text which she refers to as her toughest moment of the last year.

In July 2018 Christie tweeted: "It’s crazy how much your life can change in a few months. I had Olympic dreams fall apart, an injury, was split up with over a text message, a grandfather and father who are very sick and as a programme we’ve lost our funding. I can’t thank the people enough who have stood by me through the hardest few months I’ve ever experienced!"
