Gerrard appointment puts Scottish football back on the map - Ally McCoist

Steven Gerrard's appointment as Rangers manager is a landmark moment for Scottish football, says Rangers legend Ally McCoist.

McCoist, who managed the club between 2011 and 2014, believes Gerrard's progress at the helm will garner attention from all over the world.

He did acknowledge that the appointment was a gamble because of the ex-Liverpool captain's lack of managerial experience, but followed up by saying "appointing any manager or coach is a gamble".

McCoist also described the turnout from Rangers fans to greet Gerrard at Ibrox as "exceptional".
