Canal restoration plan gets key funding

Major grant will fund detailed work on restoring the Stroudwater canal between Eastington & Whitminster

Nearly a million pounds from the Heritage Lottery Fund has been awarded to Stroud District Council to help restore the blocked-up canal between Eastington and Whitminster. Once restored, boats will be able to cruise all the way to Stroud town centre.

This new money will go towards writing a bid for a further nine million pounds which will actually pay for the restoration work.
