‘Phil Neville got the Lioness job because of his name’
Former England goalkeeper Pauline Cope has reacted to Phil Neville being appointed as head coach of the England women's team, saying the 41-year-old has been given the role because of his name.
The ex-England full-back takes over from Mo Marley, who had been in interim charge since Mark Sampson's sacking.
Cope maintains coaching males and females is different because “women are emotional species”.
Former England defender Danny Mills views the FA’s decision to select Neville as a “bit of a left-field appointment”, and believes there were other candidates out there.
