The 1600 Club and The Newmarket, Hereford

Aubrey Street venue The 1600 Club was where all the local bands played but it also brought in bands from the wider West Midlands.

The one hundred capacity venue hosted live music three nights a week.

Before they came together to form Mott The Hoople, members would watch each other in other bands here.

The Pretenders played there before they were famous and UB40 played several times in their early days. UB40 later became the support act on The Pretenders' first major tour.

Pete Way from U.F.O's subsequent band Waysted were extraordinarily loud when they played because they brought in all their back line from Rockfield Studios near Monmouth. They were at based the studio making an album when they decided they wanted to play a gig.
