England retirement will prolong Rooney's career - Shearer
Former England captain Alan Shearer believes Wayne Rooney's decision to retire from international football will help prolong his career.
Rooney called time on his England career on Wednesday having made 119 appearances and scored a record 53 goals for his country.
"When I retired in 2000 I had three serious injuries and I knew I could not go on playing for England and Newcastle," Shearer said.
"I got three or four more years at the very highest level out of myself and I am sure he will do the same.”
