Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is expected to replace ousted premier Nawaz Sharif

The governing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is due to choose Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as the country's interim prime minister. He is believed to remain in office until Shahbaz Sharif becomes eligible to take over by winning a parliamentary by-election in two months' time. Shahbaz is the brother of the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
