The former German Chancellor was responsible for the country's reunification

The former German Chancellor, considered responsible for the country's reunification, died last month. On Saturday, events were held in Strasbourg and the German town of Speyer. US academic, John E. Rielly, discusses his friendship with Mr Kohl dating back to 1970.

Also: Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned against "impermissible" challenges to Beijing's authority over Hong Kong; and the all-girl Afghan robotics team denied permission to enter the United States.
