Cluster headache sufferer: I could rip my eye out at times
A cluster headache sufferer has described the horrendous and debilitating pain brought on by the condition which can occur up to 10 times a day.
Carolyn Matheson told 5 live Breakfast about the first time she experienced a cluster headache: “It was like an iron rod going through my head, a knife being stabbed and turned round in my eye and it lasted for an hour and a half.”
“I could rip my eye our at times it’s so bad. If there’s nothing to take the pain away I don’t know what to do with myself.”
Cluster headaches affect around one in a thousand people in the UK.
